Lapras Day Guide and Box Sale Analysis

Trainers, it has been announced that the beautiful Ice Water type, Lapras, will get its very own Raid Day! As you may or may not know, Shiny Lapras was exclusive to Safari Zone Sentosa and the surrounding area, and then to the rest of the world shortly after through Research Tasks and wild encounters.

Now will be everyone’s chance to challenge this beast in raids, and possibly encounter a shiny version!

Also confirmed is some exciting news regarding the moves that Lapras will have during this 3-hour event: Ice Shard/Ice Beam! Both are legacy moves and will only be obtainable during Lapras Day.

Event Box Sale Analysis

We are back at it again with another box analysis. This time only one box has been added to the pool: The Event Box. This box is central to the Lapras Raid Day coming up on the 25th for all timezones except for Asia-Pacific countries, and the 26th for Asia-Pacific.

This box looks great on the surface, and the first impression is that it is fantastic for lower-budget players to get their hands on a solid amount of raid passes. Let’s take a look at the box.

Looks good. Now let’s see how good it is in the savings department. Keep in mind, to give you the best bulk options, Lucky Eggs and Incense are always priced at 63 coins a piece, and Star Pieces are 50 a piece.

Savings are lackluster, but if we look at it this way, you are basically buying 5 raid passes (individually would come up to 500 coins) and getting one more free + bonus items. With that mentality, it is looking pretty good.

However, with that many raid passes in a cheap box, is it better value than the Ultra Box? The short answer is no, so if you have the coins to buy an Ultra, go for that instead of buying several of these. Not only is three of these boxes just 40 coins shy of the price of the Ultra, but only yields 18 passes to the Ultra Box’s 20. Not to mention the other items come in a lot more bulk than in the Event Box.

If you have enough coins to buy this box, and not the Ultra Box, this is an amazing deal. With the current Great Box having the same amount of passes, you could save coins by targeting the passes in the Event Box. Buying this box, plus the 5 free passes (6 if the one from the day before is saved) that are already given, you could do up to 12 Lapras Raids, or less and have passes left over.

The TL;DR

  • Lapras Raids will be everywhere. Plan your route and raiding group in advance.
  • All gyms that are not reserved for EX Raids in the following week will have a Lapras Raid.
  • You can only hold 1 free pass at a time.
  • Always drop your lucky eggs! XP will be plentiful!
  • Shiny Rates are not increased (roughly 1/19 on average.)
  • Pinap your shiny as they are guaranteed catches!
  • WAFU Raiding will help you maximize your XP gain during the event.
  • Have fun!
