Deoxys Attack Form Counters Guide (EX Raid Boss)

Best counters for Deoxys Attack form are strong Dark and Ghost Types like Tyranitar, Absol, Honchkrow, Weavile, Gengar and Shadow Ball Mewtwo. Attack forme Deoxys is the new EX Raid boss in Pokemon GO, replacing its Normal forme, and coming to us after December 20. Attack form Deoxys is a pure Psychic type, with a boss Combat Power of 37460 and 12500 stamina, meaning this forme can be potentially even be soloed (even while boosted during Windy weather).

Attack form Deoxys can be caught with the following CP Values:

  • 1372 – 1474 CP with no weather boost (Level 20)
  • 1716 – 1842 CP with Windy weather (Level 25)

This guide lists the best counters, forme stats, and which moves Attack forme Deoxys can have in Pokemon GO. For more information about Deoxys’ role in the Pokemon GO meta game, read our Deoxys formes and their place in the Pokemon GO meta article.

Attack Deoxys Counters

Attack Forme Deoxys raid counters are very similar to the previously listed Normal Forme counters, so you should already have some of these powered up by the time you face this second Forme of Deoxys to become available. A table that compares Times to Win and Death count is available below. Attack Forme Deoxys is weak to Dark, Bug and Ghost type moves.

Deoxys Attack Forme raid counters
Deoxys (Attack)Deoxys (Attack)
Weakness Bug
Dark Ghost
Boosted by Windy

*Legacy or soon to be legacy move

Since the Type effectiveness change your best bet would be to use Pokemon with Dark, Ghost and Bug type attacks. But as it’s easy to solo, you can pretty much use any good counters of the right type.

Deoxys Move sets

As of now, these are the moves that Attack Forme Deoxys has access to in the Game Master:

  • Poison Jab Poison, fast
  • Zen Headbutt Psychic, fast
  • Psycho Boost Psychic, charged
  • Dark Pulse Dark, charged
  • Zap Cannon Electric, charged

The only move you should be afraid of is Dark Pulse, as it will be super effective against your Ghost and Psychic type Pokemon.

Here’s how Deaths and Time to Win look like when fighting a Zen Headbutt / Dark Pulse Deoxys (Attack) (output via GO Hub database):

# Pokemon Fast Move Charge Move Time to win Deaths
1. Deoxys (Attack) Poison Jab Dark Pulse 145.5s 21
2. Gengar Shadow Claw Shadow Ball 176.8s 20
3. Weavile Feint Attack Foul Play 215.1s 13
4. Tyranitar Bite Crunch 224.5s 11
5. Houndoom Snarl Foul Play 229.6s 16
6. Banette Shadow Claw Shadow Ball 209.4s 23
7. Scizor Fury Cutter X Scissor 232.7s 20
8. Honchkrow Snarl Dark Pulse 232.7s 20

If I had to give a recommendation: don’t be concerned over which moves this boss has. Only Dark Pulse should give your Pokémon any concern, but even then the battle should be easy for most trainers. Attack with your best team, be it a Tyranitar army, legacy Shadow Ball Mewtwo, or even some Houndoom, it’s not a terribly hard battle.

If you do not have access to any of the fine counters listed above, do not fret, for we have some other recommendations that will still be pretty good against this alien:

  • Cacturne with Sucker Punch / Dark Pulse
  • Alakazam with Psycho Cut / Shadow Ball (Think discount Mewtwo)
  • Other good Generalists like Sky Attack Moltres, Kyogre, and Raikou.
  • Shiftry with Feint Attack / Foul Play
  • Crawdaunt with Snarl / Night Slash

Final Notes

If you already done EX raids for Normal Forme Deoxys, this Forme should be easy and you probably already have counters for it, so your only worry should be getting that EX Raid Pass. Good luck Trainers!
